On August 22, 2026, Medemblik will open the Oosterhaven for the very first time for the Swim4Brains Medemblik Harbour Swim. Not a race like you are used to, but a celebration on and beside the water. With sailboats as a backdrop and the city as the audience. Swim 500 or 1500 meters. Taste what Swim4Brains is all about. Swim for the Brain Foundation (Hersenstichting). A harbor with 700 years of history. A swimming celebration that has never existed before.
Radboud Castle has been overlooking this harbor since the 13th century. Sailboats are moored there just as they have been for generations. And on August 22, 2026, you will jump right into the middle of it — surrounded by music, cheers from the quay, and the scent of open water.

500 meters — for kids or just a refreshing dip.
A lap around the harbor head and back. Accessible, close by, perfect for your first open water experience. From 12 years old, with swimming diplomas A & B.
1,500 meters — for adults who want to venture onto the IJsselmeer.
Onto the IJsselmeer, past the harbor head, with a turning point at the city hall. For those looking for a challenge. From 16 years old, with swimming diplomas A & B.

While you swim, the quay fills with music, food, drinks; coziness. Friends and family walk along the route with you. A beautiful reward awaits at the finish line — and the feeling that you were there when it all started with this first edition.
WHAT DO YOU GET
Individual
A swim cap, a safety buoy (on loan), and a medal. You can add a T-shirt and/or water bottle in the webshop during registration. It's as simple as that.

WHY IT MATTERS
Every meter you swim brings someone closer to a new start.
Your registration and donation go to the Brain Foundation, specifically to The Class. A program that guides young adults with brain injury towards work and a social life. No abstract charity. A concrete program, with a concrete result.
Kids into the water
Thanks to the presence of paddleboarders and the lifeguard brigade, children can safely enter the water by themselves, which makes it extra fun and adventurous for them. Parents do not need to swim along. However, we do advise having one supervisor swim along for every five children, especially for children who might otherwise find it a bit exciting.
Children are required to swim with a buoy. This will be provided by the organization. In addition, a parent or guardian must give digital consent during registration via our waiver.
