Dutch Brain Foundation

As many as 1 in 4 Dutch people have a brain disorder

You only have one set of brains. They determine who you are and what you can do. Without even thinking about it, you need them for everything you do, think, and feel. You wouldn't want to think about something happening to your brainโ€ฆ

But healthy brains are not a given. More than 4 million Dutch people already have  a brain disorder. From dementia, Parkinson's disease, stroke, depression, and migraine  to brain injury after an accident. This completely turns your life and that of your loved ones upside down. Physically, mentally, and socially. In many cases, there is no treatment yet that can stop or slow down such a disorder. Learning to cope with the consequences is then often the only option.  The number of people with a brain disorder is increasing. For example, the RIVM predicts a doubling of the number of people with dementia by 2040. And 54% more strokes.

We cannot let that happen. We must do something about it now. That is why the Dutch Brain Foundation (Hersenstichting) is committed to preventing and treating brain disorders, and  enabling people to participate in society. It does this by funding research and innovations, providing education, and putting the importance of our brains on the agenda everywhere.

Ronald Schouten, Head of Fundraising at the Dutch Brain Foundation: "we are super happy with the Swim4Brains event, because swimming is good for a healthy brain. And the Dutch Brain Foundation urgently needs every euro to bring healthy brains closer for everyone in the future through more research"

The Dutch Brain Foundation is designated as an ANBI:  Public Benefit Organisation. This means that the Foundation is fully committed to the public interest. As a result, there are tax benefits such as deductibility of donations for donors.  In 2025, Swim4Brains itself will become a Foundation and will receive its ANBI status in the course of that year.
